原来想算了，不和一个动作计较了，但想想不行，这明明是一处糖，撒在男女主终于把话说开了，互通心意，即将面临命运审判的关键时刻，应该翻译出来让大家吃到啊。一整本书作者都对男女主肢体互动描写非常吝啬，难得这样（需读者脑补的）正面拥抱，还是在床第之间的温存，是杜穆里埃小说里情色尺度的极限了。
反过来说，就是因为书里的‘正派人物’举止这么克制‘体面’，反衬出丽贝卡不守妇道，惊世骇俗。以现代的标准说她只是婚前就有性经验吧，该并没有做伤天害理的事情，在Maxim口中就成了‘堕落到了极点’了。（不必说，Maxim爱上不谙世事、白纸一张的“我”未免不是一种应激反应。）
作者另一本《法国人的港湾》，已婚女主和法国海盗一直暧昧拉扯，终于共度春宵那一夜，是写到‘朵娜摘下了她一只耳环’就戛然而止了，于是那个摘耳环的动作就在我心中活色生香了那么多年头，现在想来都心旌摇曳。西曼清水文能写到这种境界的，好像也只有杜穆里埃了。
